After a hard appointment. When the house is too quiet. Before a phone call you're dreading. When you need someone to work alongside. RootSignal is for the everyday weight, not only the worst nights.
How it works

You send a signal.
One tap. Add a line if you like; you never have to explain.

The people you chose can come.
You choose who sees it: people you've connected with, a Grove you belong to, or anyone on Mycelial. Whoever is available can answer, and nobody has to.

A room opens.
A Zoom room opens for the signal. You can close the signal whenever you like, and it ends on its own after two hours.
When RootSignal ships, you will also be able to remove anyone from your room, and if nobody comes after a while we will tell you gently and offer a next step, including the crisis line.
Who hears it
You choose the audience each time you send one.
- Your trusted circle.
- People you've connected with. Everyone in it accepted the connection, and they see your handle.
- A Grove you belong to.
- Its members can see the signal and answer, and they see your handle. Members who have added a notification email get an email too.
- Anyone on Mycelial.
- An open signal can be seen by every signed-in member.
When rings arrive in early 2027, a Grove will be able to switch signals on for one of its rings. Each ring will write its own rules into its charter: who can send, who can answer, how many can join a room (three unless the ring says otherwise), and how often. Rings for sensitive subjects will start with named responders only, and your name will stay hidden until someone joins the room.
If you're the one who answers
You never have to answer. Saying nothing is always fine.
When rings arrive in early 2027, everything will be off until you turn it on. You will choose which rings you hear from, set quiet hours, switch on “I'm around” when you have room for someone, and cap how many signals reach you in a day.
Why you can trust it
Notifications will say nothing about you.
When RootSignal ships, they will read “Someone in your ring could use company,” so a lock screen or a shared inbox will give nothing away, and email will never carry a signal's content.
Never recorded, deleted after 24 hours.
Rooms are never recorded. When a room closes, the signal and who answered it are deleted 24 hours later. We keep only a count of how many signals were sent each day.
What it isn't
RootSignal is not a crisis service. It never contacts emergency services, or anyone you haven't chosen, on its own. If you might be in danger right now, call or text 988, or text HOME to 741741. Those lines stay one tap away on the screen where you send a signal.
Where it stands
RootSignal is in development. Kindling, the open protocol Mycelial is being built on, works fine without it.
